The Journal

The North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology (JOLT) is a publication of the University of North Carolina School of Law. The student-led journal focuses on the intersection of technology and the law; in this respect, it was one of the first of its kind upon its founding in 1998.

JOLT takes a broad view of the term “technology.” As such, topics in many seemingly divergent areas of the law can qualify for publication in JOLT, provided there is a relationship to a field of technology. In recent past, articles have dealt with ethics, privacy, bankruptcy, civil rights, tax law, and criminal law, as well as more traditional “tech” areas such as intellectual property and emerging technologies.

Annually, JOLT publishes four print issues (which are also available online), one fully online issue, and a weekly blog that highlights recent developments which may warrant further attention.
